I just love this postseason!
It is reminding me of 2000 the year the Ravens won the Superbowl. The Ravens were not doing well that year. We did not have much faith in the team. We went through a 5 game streak of not scoring an offensive touchdown. We had to rely totally on the defense and the field goal kicking of Matt Stover. We did finish
with 12 wins and 4 losses. But did we really think we could win the SuperBowl?
No. And they did it.
Now take this year, we finished the year with on a downward slide. We lost 3 games in a row, fired our offensive coordinator, Cam Cameron, and had Peyton Manning's former quarterbacks coach and then the Colts formere head coach take over our offense.
Focus on Ray Lewis's decision to retire at the end of the season and it feels very similar to Jerome Bettis' decision to retire in 2005. The Pittsburgh Steeler's rallied around Jerome Bettis and they successfully took the Bus (Bettis' nickname for his ability to carry tacklers on his back) all the way to the superbowl that year culminating in a January 2006 21 - 10 Superbowl win over the Seattle Seahawks.
The Ravens first game was against the vaulted Indianapolis Colts with Andrew Luck as the quarterback. Luck led his team to a successful 11 wins and 5 loss season. Luck was a darling with the media and the Colts were favored. What happened - Ravens won 24 - 9!
Our next game was yesterday and it was against the high priest of football himself - Peyton Manning leading the Denver Broncos. Everyone picked the Denver Broncos to win with the exception of one person Golic. 13 of the analysts picked the Broncos and 1 analyst, Golic, picked the Ravens. What an upset! The Ravens played the greatest game in franchise history defeating the Broncos in double overtime 38 -35.
My prediction - we will defeat the Patriots next weekend. On the NFC side the SanFranscisco 49ers will win the NFC Championship. The Ravens will play the San Francisco 49ers in the Superbowl!
The Ravens will win the Superbowl!
